Content of the qualifying pool test

Overall, the qualifying pool test consists of 3 parts:

  • A plant part
  • Life-saving techniques in the water
  • Swimming pool related first aid – including use of the swimming pool’s resuscitation equipment + beach safety
  1. The sampler must be able to account for the swimming pool’s alarm / evacuation plan in the event of accidents – including fire and chlorine emissions, measures to prevent accidents in the event of e.g. lashes, water slides, etc.
  2. Jumping followed by 50 m swimming. Maximum time 1½ min.

Two consecutive dives from water tread to dive on pool bottom

  1. Rescue of panicked swimmer, followed by 10 meters of salvage and concluding with safe delivery at the edge.
  2. New variant of rescue of panicked swimmer followed by 25 m salvage of calm medium, safe delivery and hauling with helper.
  3. Jumping from the edge of the pool and 10 meters diving for mountain dive in the deepest place, taking up media and preparing for resuscitation.
  4. Theoretical / practical test, where the sampler demonstrates an overview of swimming pool-related first aid as well as the use of the swimming pool resuscitation equipment – including the use of defibrillators (AED) + beach safety.

Exercises 2-6 are performed dressed, in context and without unnecessary breaks. Attire is the one the sampler uses in the swimming pool – however, a minimum of t-shirt.

Prerequisites

The course presupposes that you can swim 50 m with a t-shirt in less than 1.30 minutes, and that you can dive to the bottom 3 times. The basin is 3.8 meters deep. If it has been a long time since you have been in the swimming pool, it may be a good idea to go to the swimming pool and test your diving skills before you sign up for the course.

Competence-giving course certificate

After passing the training, you will receive the competency pool test certificate, which gives access to a lifeguard job (in many swimming pools you will not even be interviewed if you have not submitted a lifeguard certificate together with your application). In addition to lifeguard jobs, the education also gives you a strong card on hand if you apply for e.g. the ambulance rescue school, a job as a swimming teacher in the primary school or an educator in institutions that have activities in the swimming pool or go to a summer camp by the beach, as you are now trained to be the school or institution’s safety officer for all water activities.

The framework of the course

The pool test course consists of a mixture of theory and practical exercises in first aid as well as training in lifesaving techniques in the water. Therefore, swimwear is brought to the course, just as practical clothing is recommended during the first aid exercises. You must also bring a t-shirt for the pool test (the water part).

Supplementary swimming training

Students who are unsafe when swimming or diving, we are happy to provide additional swimming lessons. Call us on tel. 20781525 and hear more about this offer.
