Guide to Prepare for Verbal Section in TOEFL 2022

Education

The TOEFL Exam, or Test of English as a Foreign Language, is an English proficiency exam for non-native English speakers interested in attending an English-language school. The TOEFL is a test that assesses your reading, listening, speaking, and writing abilities. Graduate and undergraduate schools use it to see if you are eligible to study in an English-speaking environment. TOEFL has four sections:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Speaking
  • Listening

Reading entails reading three or four passages from academic texts and responding to questions. Candidates can practice reading passages from books or papers to prepare for this section. The passages in the test can be from anywhere. This section, is only to check the reading ability of the candidate.

Format of TOEFL

This section takes into account the test takers’ reading abilities. The TOEFL syllabus gives a detailed outlook of this section wherein a 3-4 reading passage is given to test takers. Each reading passage contains approximately 10-12 questions, totalling approximately 40 questions, and the total time permitted is approximately 54-72 minutes. The responses must be graded on the basis of their comprehension of the paragraph’s substance. However, some MBA Schools in Canada do not ask for TOEFL.

Each question is based on the passage’s content. They will ask you a series of questions when you have done reading it that will require you to analyze the content and develop inferences from it. The areas covered by the questions span from social sciences to physical sciences to business. The questions are centred on the passage’s primary points. It is not necessary for students to have expertise in these areas
