Book Writing is an art
Not everyone can master it unless they are aware of what mistakes they are supposed to avoid. This article is for those who want to know what mistakes they can make while Book Writing. I am going to share my own experience & the experiences of book writers from around the world with you today. In short, I will give you a list of top 10 book writing mistakes that must be avoided at all costs.
These mistakes are common and I have seen them being made by almost every book writer and ghostwriting services. Do you want to avoid them?
Let’s get started.
1.) Not having a clear strategy
Don’t just write the first thing that comes to your mind. There is a reason why you want to write books and it’s better if you start with this reason now! If you don’t know why you are writing books, then I would suggest you think about it. Each book should have its own purpose and this purpose should be clear in your mind before you start writing anything.
2.) Not engaging your audience
Your blog posts are meant to engage your audience; the same goes with the books that you write. You need to make sure that you engage your readers at all times. You need to constantly think of new ways to keep them engaged and hooked on the content that you are delivering to them.
3.) Not practicing enough
If you desire to be a good writer, then you need to practice as much as possible. Here, I don’t mean writing book after book. I mean writing a lot of blog posts and guest posts on various authoritative websites can be of great help. These guest postings should be done by you in order to hone your skills. I have been practicing for years & it has helped me greatly to improve my overall writing skills.
4.) Not caring about the quality
I know some people who write books just for the sake of writing books. They don’t care about the quality of their content because they want to make a lot of money by selling these low-quality books. I won’t say that you should never do this, but if you are serious about book writing then please consider this point seriously.
Do care about the audience rather than filling your own pockets. Or you won’t be able to produce something of value for your customers.
5.) Not understanding your target audience
You are writing a book for somebody! You need to have that one person in your mind while you are writing anything. If you don’t know who your target audience is, then start with searching the web. Try to search forums related to your topic and try to get on some of them. Learn more about the issue faced by people & how they want to solve them. You will soon be able to understand what you need to do!
6.) Not caring about the benefits
You should never write a book if you find it hard to explain the benefits of reading it. Make sure that your client is aware of the benefits that they are going to enjoy by reading your book. They should know what they are going to get out of it.
7.) Not being consistent
If you want people to read your books, then you need to be consistent with your efforts. You can’t simply write one book and then stop publishing any other books for months or years together. People generally don’t like that sort of behavior & this is one of the main reasons why book writing as a profession has taken a back seat now. Yours would be next if you don’t start taking this seriously.
8.) Not learning from others
You should never rely on your own experiences all the time because other people might have better experiences than you do. Who knows, they might have already solved the problems that you are facing. You should learn from other people by reading their books & blog posts so that you can get things done better!
9.) Not having self-confidence
If you aren’t confident about yourself, then how do you expect other people to be confident about you? Having a lack of confidence is one of the most common problems with people & it’s the main reason why they don’t take book writing seriously. You should try to get rid of this problem before you start writing anything because it will affect your work for sure!
10.) Not knowing how to market your books
If you lack proper marketing skills, then I would suggest that you hire a professional to do the job for you. You can give them your book writing content and they will sell your books for you. This is how it jobs & this is what you need to do if you don’t have any marketing skills at all!
I have tried my effort to keep the list simple & easy to understand so that everyone can relate to it. I hope you will be able to avoid at least some of the mistakes mentioned in this post.
